I first want to make clear that we are not protesting the technology. Although we are a Fixed Wireless Internet Service Provider, fiber to the home is not the right technology for all of Southside Virginia due to the extreme cost of it’s deployment. Fiber is what runs the backbone of our network. Fiber is great for an area with a high density of homes. But will all the little dog leg roads around the lake, it will cost a small fortune, per household just to build the infrastructure. Using just the current grant award and number of homes, it is well over $6000 per home to use fiber.
What this is all about is the way they went about obtaining this grant. It was done in such a way as to not allow any other competitors, or comparable and possibly better, less expensive technology. Empower say’s this is a win for Southside Virginia. Is it really? Is it the best use of your tax payer dollars? What were they so afraid of to not allow a local family owned business, that has been here serving our great clients for 21 years, to compete for this VATI grant? We sure would appreciate your support. Would you possibly make a contribution to help us with our ever growing legal fees? https://gofund.me/6949e121
