As a local ISP Lake Country Satellite was thrilled when Microsoft came to us for this project that would benefit our hometown.  It just made sense that Microsoft team up with us as the local provider.  We have been providing high speed internet for our clients since around the early 2000’s before there was any other option besides dial up.  In the beginning it was Starband a satellite based product that delivered a blazing fast 1.5 Mbps!  Back in the day this was like broadband is today compared to the dial up 54 kbps.  In recent years LCS has delivered other faster services through the Exede, now Viasat satellite with speeds up to 30 Mbps.

If you live or pass through the Boydton area and need internet , you have access to 2 hours of free WiFi per day in the downtown court house square area.  You must enter your name and email address to access this free system.  Just look for the “Boydton WiFi” network on your device, read the terms of service, check the box and click connect.  This will begin a 2 hour timer for your device.  Once the time is up, you will be locked out for 24 hours and will have to go back through the authentication process again.  If you provide false information, your device may be blocked from any future use of any of our free WiFi hot spots.
